My name is Wally Stone, I'm the Chairman of Whale Watch and most people here call me the Chief Dogs-body. Statistics or information is fundamental to making good decisions.

I look back over the last 15 years and it's been a quite interesting ride. And the mistakes, I've made a lot of mistakes and it normally comes back to poor research. The more information you've got, the more professional advisors you've got working for you, the better informed your business decisions will be and save those mistakes. Statistics in general for any business are vital. In New Zealand , even with a population of four million, it's vital that we know what the population are doing, what trends are occurring, index changes and so on. My advice to someone who is starting up a business is to research the business in the first place and the easiest way is to give Stats a call.

You really want to be focused, that you are targeting the right audience and that you are using the right channels to get your message to them. We are talking about information. Information is fundamental. I think there is an old saying that information is knowledge therefore well informed people make very powerful decisions.
